I’m planning on replacing my SuperMicro 846 chassis with a HL15. I already have the MCP-290-00057-0N rail kit. 45Drives sells a long and short SuperMicro rail kit, but neither is the same as what I have.
Can anyone confirm if the MCP-290-00057-0N will work on the HL15?
The rails attach to the HL15 with three screw positions on each side. See below for screw positions and spacing;
You’d have to see if your 00057’s have those three screw positions. The HL15 doesn’t use the tool-less rail attachment mechanism found on some Supermicro chassis. For screws, I think everyone gets the screws to attach the rails in the little blue accessories baggie, regardless if they order one of the rail kits. If not, you might have to confirm the screw diameter and thread. You may or may not have chassis attachment screws for your current rails depending on your chassis, how you acquired the rails, if you save “extra” parts, etc.
There could be other fitment factors, but that would be the main one.
I don’t think the 45HL price for the rails is special, so you could order without rails and see if the ones you have do fit. if not, the new or used 00053’s or 00058’s should be readily available in the Supermicro store at Amazon or eBay or back at the 45HL store or other source relatively quickly at no net additional cost.
The gist, I think, is that the HL15 should come with 6x 10-32 1/4" screws for attaching rails regardless of if you order rails. I think there were some issues with the initial production re screws not being included, some screw holes not being tapped correctly on the chassis, and that the rail kits also include screws that are threaded differently and not needed. That should all be fixed now.
I have the 00053 rails and didn’t have any issues, so being uneventful, I couldn’t remember the details. I’m not exactly sure what the difference is between the 00053 and 00058 except the 00058 seems rated for taller chassis and perhaps therefore more weight. But there may be other physical differences.
