I’m looking to get a dedicated NAS system and have heard great things about 45Drives. Im thinking about getting the HL8 - Fully Built & Burned In but would like to confirm some confusion in the specs.
I have seen a few posts somewhat around this topic that indicate ECC might not be supported but there was also a reply from Vikram-45HomeLab indicating this might be supported in a new option? I’m wondering what the current status of this is at in 2026? Should I send a quote request for the pro version from here?
I’m guessing something didn’t pan out as it’s still not an option. 45HomeLab and I often have different expectations around “soon”, but this is getting up there at six months and counting.
You can always email info@45homelab.com or call (866) 471-8188 to inquire about a full build with ECC. From what I understand, the Pro8 is geared towards MSP’s. It may have additional costs or markup baked into the price as a result.
Yeah thats the one! (I couldn’t post 2 links since I’m new )
I will give that email a shot and report back with what I hear back. I might be willing to stomach some markup. I started down the rabbit hole of looking into a DIY build and don’t have the time to go through my due diligence for the Hardware and the TrueNAS software. I was thinking this HL8 should be able to handle all of my needs in one, but if I’m paying for a pre-built NAS I’d prefer it has ECC.
Definitely let us know what you hear back. I did my own custom HL8 build a while back as I wanted both ECC and BMC features. It’s my offsite TrueNAS Backup and runs the latest version of TrueNAS just fine. I was hoping the 45HomeLab team would consider shamelessly copying the build but doesn’t look like it. You could use it as a starting point though. It’s the “Pro Max” configuration that I went with. Pictures and more details are in the replies.
Hey, I’m deciding to hold off for the time being and just keep using my desktop PC as my NAS until I feel I need to do an upgrade. I will probably end up going with one of the HL15 variants when I decide to pull the trigger, unless there is another official option available with ECC before then
