HL15 Max CPU Cooler Height

I’m thinking of getting a middle fan wall made up that will support a 360mm AIO, the serious loads are proving too much for the Noctua NH-D12L. It idles mid 30C, and can peak to 100C under load. But I also probably have higher than normal workloads. The Noctua CPU fan is set to 100% all the time in bios. This is no means the fault of 45Drives, these Raptor Lake CPUs are like cooling a nuclear reactor. Motherboard and drives all stay at 30C or less with the stock fans.

I’d like to file a motion:

Motion:
#1 Staff will add a topic along the lines of confirmed CPU cooler towers in HL15
the list shall contain hard dimensions (properly described as ideal and with certain equipment, setup, modification, and similar)

For ex: “3D digital renderings suggest a max CPU cooler height of 160cm, an additional Xcm height clearance could be gained by using shorter motherboard standoffs, specific motherboards, and other disclaimers.”

Ex 2: @user and @user2 have reported using ABC CPU cooler that markets with Xcm heigh and the unit closes with no issue. @user3 and @user4 reported using DEF CPU cooler that markets with Ycm and the unit closes properly with minimal force. @user5 and @user6 reported using GHI CPU cooler that markets with Zcm and the unit would not close without serious modification.

Every time I come to the forum to refresh my memory on proper cooler I need to dig through 3 or more topics. It would be nice if staff compiled them in a single and easy to find thread. This would not hold staff liable for sharing experience others willingly shared.

Can i get a second?

In case it’s of use I use the following hardware

  • Standard included motherboard stand-offs
  • ASRock Z790 Riptide WiFi
  • CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6400 going for relatively fast but stability is key for me
  • 14700 (Non K) wanted lower TDP as air cooling although my air cooled 13900k (U12A) works fine in there too with Unraid etc.
  • Thermal Grizzly Intel 1700 LT CPU Contact Frame
  • Noctua NH-U12S CPU Cooler (Height 158mm fits with maybe 1mm clearance) Interestingly, maybe :joy:, I also have an NH-U12A which given it’s also 158mm height also fit perfectly. I’d read others have had issues but mine fit fine.

Both coolers also cleared memory and VRMs on the motherboard even with the dual fan on the U12A
