Topic for software coaching needed/wanted?

When something goes sideways here and Dia can’t help, I never know where to post a request for help/coaching. Would a separate topic be helpful?

We should also have a topic to talk about new software we have tried and liked or tried and abandoned. The software discussion seems like the right place to have this sort of chat.

One thing on my plate is to migrate to Rocky 9. Have we talked about this? and Rocky 10 is out. Is there any buzz about Rocky 10? I understand they have taken a significant step closer to project heads.

PS: recovering from thunderstorm iduced chaos including core switch brain dead, Edge switches wouldn’t adopt. Once switches recovered Rocky HomeLab wouldn’t play well (found disconnected network cable not reconnected) and one TrueNAS server is down. Suspect something similar,

Servers are headless so I have to move a JetKVM around. Slowly recovering

They could consider more, narrower categories, and stricter use of tags or something like Reddit Flair to indicate requests for help, questions that have been answered, etc. But, right now I’m not sure there is enough user, moderator and staff activity that anyone gets overly pedantic about what categories posts are in, or that specific 45HL staff are only watching specific topic categories or keyword tags. I don’t think your posts aren’t getting responses, or quick responses, based on the topic/category selected. The peer user base is just relatively small, and staff time for the forums is probably limited.

As the product line expands, it would be helpful to know up front with requests, what hardware someone is running, as this often becomes the first question. (HL15 v1, HL15 v2, HL15 XL, HL8, HL4; old BackBlaze pod, other …, full build or custom build, Rocky/Houston, Unraid or TrueNAS, etc.).

I’d put this in “Software & Applications”, yes.

They only released Houston support for Rocky 9 in the past 1-2 months. The easiest thing to do is probably just search “Rocky 9” and sort by date. I think you started, or replied to a few of the threads. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about or link to a KB specific to upgrading (as opposed to a new install), but I don’t run Rocky/Houston myself. I haven’t seen anyone mention Rocky 10. I wouldn’t expect that any time soon. Properly supporting a newer ZFS version might be a more pressing task.

Hopefully it was just an outage and not a lightning strike.
