Hey Homelabers,

I have been reading your comments and i have finalized on a no Graphics front for the beast. Kindly let me know your thoughts on the image below.

I like it much better. I’m not a big fan of the font, but the size of the font is much better.

My ideal version would use the same font as the HL15 v2 front and not have the HL15 beast text. I would want them to match in my rack. I am happy to custom-order it, so maybe give more weight to the opinions of others.

Looks good. Having some options like you have posted is great when people are playing in the premium space. Thanks for soliciting the feedback and taking it to heart!

Will you be offering the motherboard and CPU sepearately, I’m the proud owner of the original HL15 with the intel CPU and powersupply and think it might be nice to upgrade to the AMD powered version. Is there an upgrade path for this use case.

Thanks

James

I feel like the same feedback gets provided every time…. Whomever is in charge of graphic design for this one must REALLY be married to that font or something, as no matter how many people say they dislike it and want something more professional, it remains the same - just smaller this time

I admire their passion! … I just don’t necessarily agree with the ‘gamer-y’ aesthetic (whether it be graphics or font). I know it’s been said a number of times, but my preference for my homelab is that it look professional and tidy.

At this point, I’ll just order mine with a blank faceplate and silkscreen “H15-E” in the bottom left myself

Do we’ve any idea / estimate as to what the price is going to be for the chassis+backplane for this one yet by chance? Given it’s just a few weeks to it being fully unveiled, hopefully there’s at least a planned range, if you could share it? I’m planning / budgeting my Christmas present to myself and that’d be immensely helpful

Might’ve meant to post that elsewhere, not sure - this thread’s specific to the upcoming extended chassis version.

Regardless, if looking to upgrade your chassis, I’d just purchase whatever you’d prefer direct - I feel like 45Drives mostly offers the other components in order to enable them to support full system builds, and I doubt they’d want to go down the road of those like CDW/Newegg/etc… They’ll still support their gear though regardless of what’s in it though :+1:

Thanks for taking feedback. One more vote to get rid of that horrid font. Keep it simple. Keep it clean.

Feels like only Comic Sans is more loathed. :joy: Mad respect for everyone’s opinion here but I’m liking the font. For the record, I’m also nostalgic for Comic Sans.

Someone definitely has a fixation with it.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the font. I just hate it in this context: if I’m selecting a blank faceplate, I want it to be minimal so I can customize it. If folx want to have the faceplate w/ some identification, then I understand the desire for a more professional font.

PS - On the typography note, I’m also a huge fan of the “Lobster” font, Open Sans and Comic Sans. They have their time and place!

Hi @jamesdwi,

Kindly send me an email at info@45homelab.com and i can send you a quote for all the electronics you need.

Thank you,

What are the dimensions?

Hey @jdmmis

The dimens are expected to be 24"L x 17.125"W x 8.75"H

Has anyone provided feedback indicating that they like or prefer this font? Even the non-graphics version, which appears otherwise clean, is undermined by this font choice.

The only rationale I can surmise is that it may be intended to convey a more informal, “homelab” aesthetic, potentially discouraging deployment at scale in corporate environments.

IMO, the minimal faceplate should utilize the same font as the HL-15 currently in my rack, or the HL8 units installed at several of my friends’ and family members’ homes.

While this complaint may be small potatoes if the font is confined to this particular product, your team consistently engages with and acts upon community feedback. It therefore seems strange to me that this font has persisted despite the evident consensus against it.

Got the email today about it being unveiled at twitchcon, and this is the image displayed:

I reeeeaaally hope someone just forgot to update the marketing materials, as that front plate looks like something from a bad slasher flick to me, as opposed to pro-grade homelab hardware

I really hope that is just a special for the twitchcon and not the standard!

That said i am totally confused on the fan wall being split into two sections. If the left part in the image space for NVMe / SSD drives?

Doesnt the back grill have space for a 140mm fan? I feel like it is just a 120 mm fan holes in the middle of perforations. I do really hope the back fan can be 140mm also like they seem to have done for the front.

Am I counting it right? 7 fans total right?

The motherboard in the sample unit seems to be the same Romed8-2T, but the additional space behind seems like it would be enough for an ATX Board and with the expansion cages I think this is more like the storage legos being asked.
