Searchable HL-4 manual PDF, please

I’m new to 45drives and 45homelab Houston UI along side a couple of TrueNAS boxes for serving.
While doing configuration planning, I found myself in the HL4 manual (pretty good mostly) in Apple Preview. I tried to search it and found that Preview could not search it. It would be a big help if Command-FoxTrot opened the search widget and the text could be searched to find a specific topic, keyword, command, or procedure. Otherwise a good effort. Not your first rodeo. Thanks.

The PDfs have searchable text, they aren’t image scans. It seems like this may be an issue with Apple Preview and not the PDF. See, eg, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253903715?sortBy=rank. I’m not an Apple user though.

Works for me??? I restarted Preview, opened my tax return, searched for Capital Gains and it was found. Tax return was printed to PDF on this Mac. Then I opened recent the HL-4 manual and searched for SMB. And it searched. And for Time Machine and it searched coming up dry.

Do you need help setting the HL4 up for Time Machine, or was that just an example?

There is a KB article, though a bit old, of some options you may need to set for the Samba share to use it with Time Machine;

Not this time around. But it is something for which TrueNAS had built in some support in the SMB UI so I decided to look for it. The thing I tried to search the book for was “Time Machine” or “TimeMachine”.

I like the helpful spirit here. System admin has such a large surface area that nobody knows it all. Everyone is a newbie at something so a helpful culture is good. Thanks.
