Any recommendations for quiet 12tb+ drives? I know they all won’t be silent but the HL15 will be sitting in my rack in my bedroom and I can’t have constant drive noise otherwise the wife will kill me. I currently have a synology with 8x8tb shucked WD easystore drives and its not dead silent but the noise is very minimal. I’m planning to fill up the HL15 with drives from serverpartdeals.com. I burned through my budget on the build itself so getting some recertified drives for cheap would be fine for me.
I have several WD Red Plus 14TB drives in my HL15, and I typically can’t hear them unless I put my ear up to the machine. I researched drives for a while before building the HL15, and those seemed like the best balance of size, speed, and sound level.
