For the other storage servers I believe they support the Supermicro AOC-SHG3-4M2P. Are we aware if the same expansion card works in the pre-configured HL15?
I’m looking at options to add more NVMe drives to the system. I’m assuming for adding 1 more drive something like like would work UGREEN-NVMe-PCIe-Adapter-64Gbps but I like the idea of the additional 4.
I believe that both cards should work , though with the AOC-SHG3-4M2P, you may need to go into the BIOS and enable bifurcation. Another thing to consider with this card is that since it is x8 , you may be sacrificing performance if you have all 4 NVMe slots utilized. To avoid that, you’d want to look at an x16 quad card.
If you purchase the quoted Ugreen expansion card, your best bet would be to install it in the x4 slot on the motherboard.
Another alternative would be to install up to two U.2 SSDs (which are basically NVMes in a 2.5” form factor) using the two Oculink ports on the motherboard. No AOC required but you’d need to purchase Oculink to U.2 cables.
Hey @Krushal, Yes you are correct the “AOC-SHG3-4M2P” would be the NVMe expansion card we use with our Storinators for adding 4 NVMe drives
Although we do not have any experience with the UGREEN-NVMe-PCIe-Adapter-64Gbps I do not see why it wouldn’t work
As @hakunamatata mentioned be mindful of the expansion cards you are looking at, you do not want to buy a card for 4 NVMe drives and then not have enough PCIe lanes to utilize the NVMes to their full potential.
