why? he was just pointing out facts
The Bronze really is trash. With compression and encryption it can’t push close to 10gbps, more like 3-4.
I love how it stacks up to my Plex and VM server CPUs lol. the laptop CPU is an embedded mITX board, I just built it because the changes to the mini workstation but it takes less power at a bit more performance plus has iGPU with AV1 support
Here is the Bronze vs a Rockchip on the Orange Pi 5 for extra entertainment
I just thought it was funny. And a hint to anyone buying the Full Build to consider upgrading to one of the other CPUs for the socket if they are wanting anything more than a basic single-user SATA based file server. Either the CPUs available in the store, or by getting the CPU themselves. There seem to be some Xeon Gold 61xx’s available for as low as $170 if you get a cooler that can handle he TDP.
Ya the full build is upgradable which is great. and also i agree its primarily a storage server not a compute server, but advanced users can always adjust it to their needs. And I also know that a lot of people complain about price and compare to used ebay parts. there was a post here about the HBA pricing, but 45Drives cant be hassled with peddling used/ewaste and all the hassle of supporting EoL products.
i found the same supermicro board on ebay with a gold 6139 18 core 36 thread 2.30gHz for $430 shipped. I build a nice upgraded system for less than the pre built bronze. I got lucky!! Agree w/ ZarZ though it’s gonna be more expensive because the system is new and pre built/tested.
I’m sorry. I am pro 45Drives/45HL, but you missed the point/assertion of Wendell’s video. The 3647 socket has been around seven years and is EoL and the Bronze 3204 is one of the least powerful chips available for that socket. 45HL is peddling ewaste in the Full Build. It may be New-In-Box ewaste, but it is ewaste. The whole unit isn’t, but the brain is.
Ya I was more thinking the whole HBA thing with EOL, but then i just seen they have Rocket750s on the site, so i guess they are dealing in EOL, just new EOL like you say. I guess the more correct statement I should have made, is they probably don’t want to sell used parts. Heck I dont even think the Rocket750 is supported in a lot of distros, I know Unraid doesn’t anymore, buddy had to replace his in a storinator after OS update.
The R750 EOL status is disclosed in the store listing. That’s fine. I had one running in a Windows 10 system without loading any special driver (not sure which version, maybe 1909). I assume it would still be supported with the current version. Not sure about Windows 11, since I’ll never run that.
Ya or just even older kernels if you had to in a Nix variant.
