While trying to mount another server below, I noticed the HL15 did not fit 100% inside the 4U space. It was somehow seated just a bit lower, which blocked the 1U below it from fitting anything. You can see by the gap above it and how the ear covers the U divider mark.
There are two things to be aware of, but I don’t think either is your issue, so I’m just mentioning them;
- If the rails aren’t in the correct holes, this can throw off the vertical alignment of the server in the rack. Also if the rails are slanted so that you acccidentally get the front one hole higher/lower than the back or something.
- There were some issues with the rack ears from the first production run in late 2023. Originally I think 45HL wanted a single ear to be flipable and usable on either side, but the ears apparently need to differ ever so slightly on left vs right.
It looks like your rail placement is probably ok, although you might want to show that (server pulled out to show where the rails are clicking into the rack holes). And since you joined and started posting in late 2024, I assume your HL15 is not one of the late 2023/early 2024 builds. If your rack ears are not labeled “L” and “R” you can get updated rack ears. If they are labeled, but you have them on the wrong sides, they would be mis-aligned and you should swap them. But your issue seems to be the whole unit sitting 1 or 2 mm too low, not just the rack ears.
Here are some photos of mine. I have two HL15s above each other, but I have no equipment directly above or below. There is a 1U gap I intentionally left between the top HL15 and a SuperMicro server above it. The top of the ear will correctly not cover up the top hole, but the bottom of the ear and unit should fall just at the RU boundary.
I think it might just be your HL15, or your combination of HL15 and rack. You could send a note to info@45homelab.com, but I’m not sure they’ll be able to help.
I tested it with another rail, but it’s still the same issue.
I am sure it’s not the rail/rack since I have used them with SC836/SC847 for many years.
HI @dango, Id recommend sending an email to info@45homelab.com so we can get this resolved for you ASAP
