I have a fully baked HL8 and also purchased 2-Slot M.2 NVMe Carrier Card. My understanding is the carrier card is where the 5 port SATA card is. But I dont see the 2nd slot, even after removing the 5 port SATA card. What am I missing?
The second m.2 slot is on the back side of the motherboard. That will have the OS drive.
The m.2 NVMe carrier card is a PCIe card that would go in the PCIe slot;

When did you buy your HL8? Did you pick this as an option on the configurator?
Based on some posts here, I think the full build (that motherboard) may not support the bifurcation needed to use both NVMe slots on that carrier card. And, I don’t think I see it as a current option on the HL8 configurator page any more, just sold individually in the 45HL store. If you were charged for the 2-port card, did not receive it, and did not receive a credit, you need to contact info@45homelab.com to see what is going on.

I ordered on 12-12-2024. I noticed that they no longer are providing this as an option for the HL8, I did pay for it. I will ask for a refund.

There was also an issue around launch where addons weren’t appearing on the build list for the techs, so it is possible that is also a factor.
To be clear, I do not have an HL8 so aren’t saying 100% about incompatibility, just going by a few posts like this one;
Support should get you sorted, they’re usually pretty easy to deal with.

The card comes shipped separately. But per that other thread it doesn’t actually support filling both nvme slots in it. So if you were hoping to add 2 more nvme you will need to return that card and buy a 4 nvme x16 card. One of those will let you use 3 more with the x8x4x4 setting in the bios, filling the 1st, 3rd, and 4th nvme slots.

Can you recommend a card? My frustration is the card was offered as an addon with the HL8.
Yeah. I had the same frustrations. I got one of these sabrent cards and it worked to add three nvme to my HL8. 4-Drive M.2 NVMe SSD to PCIe 4.0 x16 Bifurcation Adapter Card with Act - Sabrent

Yes. The HL8’s PCIE slot only supports bifurcation to x8x4x4 mode which means you can support 3 devices. It doesn’t support x4x4x4x4 mode which is what is needed to use all 4 on the x16 card (or both slots on an x8 card). The motherboard just doesn’t support splitting the first x8 lanes up.
