HL8 SSD Bracket

Good old Craft Computing got me interested in an HL8. He mentioned there will be a way to mount an OS SSD between the motherboard and the 8-drive bay… is that the SSD Bracket listed as a $15 option?

If yes, does it support 1 or 2 SSDs?

I watched the same video and that prompted me to place the order. And I just received my HL-8! I placed an order with the SSD bracket but it was not included in the chassis. I’m sure it will either arrive separately or was accidentally missed.

This is on solid chassis! I look forward to building it out. I decided to build my own motherboard/CPU/memory.

I hope you have you contacted 45drives about the missing part. Maybe it’s attached to the inside of the case…?

Can anyone from 45Drives comment about the SSD Bracket?

I’m about to reach out to 45drives to follow up. Online, my order still does not show as delivered but I did indeed receive the HL8 although without the SSD bracket. I think their eCommerce site needs work. It is definitely not as smooth as other sites I’ve dealt with.

I still have not started to build out my HL8. I finally have all the components. I will be going with a Gigabyte B650 Ultra, Ryzen 9700, 96GB RAM and use 2 x 2TB NVMe and 8 x 10TB WD Red Drives from my current Unraid setup on an old QNAP chassis. My plan is to install Proxmox VM and virtualize TrueNAS. Since I have another QNAP chassis for my NAS, I can build this one out to see if I can use it as a VM host along with NAS storage. By all accounts, watching enough Youtubers, I should be able to do this. If not, I can always revert back to running Unraid or TrueNAS natively and run my apps directly. FWIW, I find Unraid easier to manage Docker containers than TrueNAS but the latest version of TrueNAS may be worth revisiting.

Hey @Eveyone,

I appreciate all of you for letting me know that SSD Brackets were not received with your order, and on further investigation, we found out that due to a bug on the website any add-ons including the acrylic fronts were not showing up on our assembly and packaging sheets, and hence we missed on sending those out separately. I will be sending out emails to all the customers who did not receive the add-ons and let them know soon.

I would like to thank everyone for letting us know about this and happy to let you know that this has been corrected now.

I’m curious about this as well if the bracket holds 1 or 2 2.5" SSD’s and if it’s only 1 can 2 of the brackets be used or is it limited to just 1?

Hey!

The add-on SSD bracket can hold 2x 2.5” SSDs.

For those asking, this is what the bracket looks like;

Thank you, @DigitalGarden and @Andrew-45Drives!

I received my missing SSD bracket and figured out how to install it. No instructions were provided but I’m glad that two screws were mounted in the drive cage and the SSD bracket simply slides onto the screws.

Cable management is becoming quite challenging so I’m not sure when/if I’ll be using additional 2.5" SATA drives. There is ALOT going on in this chassis!!
