HL8, questions about the power switch connectors

The power switch has two leads, one would be the switch, and the other is the reset button? But which is which? Does it matter?

They’re not labeled and there’s nothing in the manual about it.

I’m going off memory here, but I’m pretty sure the back pair is for the power switch and red/green wire pair is the system powered-on LED integrated into the same switch.

Funny there’d be a power on LED when the switch is in the back? I’ll give that a try although the black cable’s solder broke free (presumably in shipping) so I know that won’t work. I’ve sent an email to see if they can send a replacement.

That’s the way I recall it as well. The two black wires are the power switch. The red (+)/green (-) wire is for the power LED. That’s the way it is working in my HL8 chassis.

My wires were attached upon receipt but they are super fragile and just laying loose inside the chassis. I think this should/could be done better. At least a jacketed cable with the four leads would offer some protection.

The issue I am having with the power switch is that it barely is being retained in the hole. It tends to pop out. 45drives crammed alot into this chassis but this makes cable management quite a challenge. Some of the cables exert a fair amount of pressure which requires quite a bit of care when closing the chassis.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll give it a shot.

I also emailed support and anew button is on the way. They’ve been great.

That’s disappointing! The switch on my HL8 started popping out pretty easily and I was also worried about the soldered connections breaking. I ended up hot gluing it to help with both concerns.

I was thinking of getting something like this which is much more sturdy (and for the price of the case probably should have been the default).

But I’m not sure of the exact diameter of the hole. I’ll do some measuring to see what I can come up with.

That’s a nice looking button! I might look at this route if my hot glue job doesn’t hold up. Here’s a picture. Not pretty but I think it works.
