HL8 Graphics Card

I need a transcoding GPU in my next NAS (which has to happen soon, as my antique QNAP system is dying). Assume a maximum usage of 4 downconverted 4k to 1080p streams simultaneously. So, looking at the HL8, I think I see a PCIe slot there to the left of the CPU.

What sort of cards will that chassis accomodate? I presume I’m looking at single-slot cards, but are we talking about Arc A310 here (seems to be all you can get these days), or Quadro 2000? Or will it handle a single-slot Quadro 4000-series card (this is probably massive overkill for my application in any case, but… y’know…)?

Thanks!

Yes. Single slot, full-height max. The available length isn’t a lot more than the depth of a mini ITX motherboard (6.7 inches / 170 mm). Exactly how much more I’m not sure, but it’s going to be less than 7.9 inches. Power probably just from what the PCIe slot provides. The PSU does have cables for PCIe power, but the case is pretty cramped and using them might be awkward. You’d have to also factor that into the length or height dimensions, if there is even a single slot short depth GPU that takes additional power. A Quadro 4000 won’t fit, a Quadro 2000 probably would, a Quadro P2000 might just be persuaded, but I’m not sure. An A310 seems like a safe bet that others are using.

Here is an example list of candidates, the GPU length could be tweaked a few mm;
