I am hoping to get a HL4 soon.
I will be using unRAID, so I will be wiping the data off the SSD.
I was wondering if that would break the warranty, and is there an actual warranty on the product?

There is a warranty on the 45HL web site;
Installing a different OS shouldn’t void any warranty as far as hardware. But UnRAID isn’t the preferred OS in the 45HL community, so if you do need to, say, diagnose a NIC issue or something under UnRAID peer help may be limited.
You might consider purchasing the smallest SSD with the HL4 and just setting it aside as a backup if you do have a warranty issue. Purchase another SSD for your cache. I assume UnRAID will be on a USB.
Yes unRAID is on a USB. I am going for the big SSD because I need the high speed storage and throughput and I don’t want to swap parts down the road.
Hey @urbanracer34
We at 45Drives pride ourselves in being an open source alternative to legacy providers. While this is a philosophy that started in our enterprise line, it also is inherited in our HomeLab line. We feel that you should be able to do what you want when you want with your own system, no warranties will be voided regardless of the software chosen!
As DigitalGarden said, there may be less help from the forums itself for any related software issues but, our team and myriad of users will try their best none the less!
If you have any additional questions let me know!
Hello!
Thanks for the information. I greatly appreciate it. I am glad to hear that the warranty will be still intact.
