I’ve added a couple of x520 Intel NICs, and it appears they do not support wake on lan. Dug through the BIOS and no luck. And the spec sheets are unclear.
I can’t seem to find if the two SFP+ ports on the X11SPH-nCTPF motherboard support WOL.
Can someone confirm if they do or don’t?
Thank you
According to this FAQ entry, the motherboard should support WOL by default;
But I think you also need to configure it in the OS. What OS are you running? Rocky/Houston or something else?
What does ethtool report?
I’m running TrueNAS Core, I think it maybe just an issue with the older x520 NICs; I’ll try with the on board SFP+ and with an older i350
Thank you
I’d go into the Truenas Shell and confirm what ethtool says about WOL being supported and/or enabled on the various NICs. I think by default it is probably disabled. I’d also be sure the firmware on the NIC is up to date, and I’d try sending the magic packet to the IPMI port. Sorry, I don’t have an X11SPH.
Looks like no go for the x520-DA’s, they are not supported
I still have not tried the on board SFP+ nics, but based on a Quick Look it should
Rather than trying to add another interface just for WOL I’m going to see if I can use impitool instead and use the ipmi interface to power on the server
Thank you again for your suggestions and help
