Do you think the case will have enough cooling for a 3970X Threadripper or mounts for an AIO?
There are ALOT of homelab people using 24” deep racks. The deeper version would be suboptimal for them. I’d rather not goto deep than 20” unless I’m getting more drives.
Looks like i need to hold out for these upcoming models based on my hardware (i need to fit my old 3090ti into the build). Do we have an aiming point for release dates?
Preorders should be starting next week for this and should start shipping out the first week of August ,but I’ll let @Vikram-45HomeLab confirm
Hey Homelabers check this out - https://youtu.be/7MgP-gL7HlY
Any update on the 5U version? Looking for a deeper version that handles EEB cards and has more space for GPUs.
Will the 5U version also have prebuilt fully burnt in options?
This is amazing news! Could you tell us when the new chassis will be released? I was planning to purchase an HL15 2.0, but now I’m considering waiting. I’m stuck now.
Before I knew about the new chassis, I always thought, “Great chassis, but why not make them larger to fit a GPU and create the ultimate box?” Personally, I would love to see Nvidia 50 series cards for local AI use cases. Specifically, I would be happy if some of the larger VRAM versions would fit.
It seems that Nvidia will release some 50-series 24 GB Super versions. Those would be my ideal fit.
Edit: After looking into the rumors, it seems that the RTX 5070 Ti Super could be the cheapest 24GB VRAM card. Assuming the rumors are true, this would be my preferred card, which needs to fit into a larger HL15.
Hey All, I just checked with the team and the plan is to be able to fit any GPU currently on the market.
Right now we have a 4090 in it in our lab!!
That’s great news! Is it for the 5U version, or is it for an extended 4U version?
for the release date. Any information on it?
This would be for the 5U version of the HL15. As for release dates, I do not have a date as of ye,t as we are still making sure everything fits without any issues
I know a few people in the forum suggested adding an external 5.25" bay with the extra height the 5U HL15 will have. Do you know if the final version will have one? It would be great to have an optical drive directly on the storage server.
Hi @SmrtAlec, We have no plans currently to add a 5.25" bay in these units but I will pass this feedback along
I find the idea of using the extra space for a 5.25-inch drive interesting, especially with the right firmware… Personally, though, I don’t need it. This raises the question: What will the extra 1U bring? I would love to fit a GPU, but it seems that many GPUs fit into a 4U case as long as the case is long enough. I wouldn’t want to see any space wasted.
The good thing about 5.25 external drive bays is that even if you don’t need an optical drive, you can get icy dock adapters that turn them into hot swap hdd/ssd drive bays which is great for adding more drives to storage servers. I would really love to see them implemented more since there are extremely few server chassis with a lot of 3.5" drive bays that include a 5.25" bay. It makes sense since enterprises don’t really need a 5.25" drive bay but I would love one in my storage server for my home lab.
With 4U, some of my GPUs fit, but all of them had horrible bends on the already fire prone cables. 5U is nice room for the cable on mammoth AIB GPUs.
Do these include the “Beast” or is that something different? I am specifically looking for something that can fit EATX (X11DPH-T). Do you happen to know the depth of whatever will support EATX?
The Beast is the 5U version mentioned by Vikram in the original post, and yes it is supposed to be both 5U in height and with a depth and standoff locations to accommodate 12"x13" EATX motherboards like the one you named. I have no knowledge of the planned depth, but it would have to be at least 3.5 inches deeper than the standard HL15, which is 20 inches, going from ATX to EATX. Since some GPUs are longer then 13 inches, my guess is the depth will be 25 or 26 inches. I think Supermicro’s chassis that house their EATX boards are typically 26 inches deep.
