Thanks again for all your amazing feedback—it’s because of you that we’re officially moving forward with the extended version of the HL15!
This upgraded design will support E-ATX motherboards and full-sized GPUs , giving you more flexibility and power for your HomeLab setups. We wanted to keep you in the loop as we finalize the design. While the increased length isn’t an issue for standard racks, the height will also need to increase to accommodate the largest GPUs on the market. The current HL15 is 4U, but the extended version will be 5U.
We know that every RU matters, so we’d love to hear your thoughts as we move forward. Our goal is to make this version as functional and versatile as possible while meeting the demands of high-performance HomeLabs.
Having the 4U version with an E-ATX motherboards would be very nice as it would go on my desk in the horizontal position. One idea to make it happen would be to remove the 15 HDD from the chassis to make room for the E-ATX and instead add some SDD and NVME disk accessible from the front panel for the remaining space and one cool option for the HDD would be to put the HDD in a separate HL15 chassis that we hook up directly. This way that chassis could have like 45HDD drive in it.
Is there any update on this 5U beast that supports EATX? I really want to pull the trigger on one of these but since they are so expensive I want the bigger 5U with EATX support so I have flexibility to use my threadripper motherboard and RTX4090.
The HL15 2.0 is the standard HL15 with upgraded electronics, and the HL15 Beast is a new addition which will be a bigger unit which can accomodate larger GPU and E-ATX motherboard.
EATX opens up some options, but what I would need (at least to buy the fully assembled version, which I definitely prefer) is a current motherboard, not one that’s at least seven years old. The H13SSL-N seems the obvious choice, but an X14 board could be an option if Intel fixed their high prices along with their low PCIe lane counts.
