i really good upgrade in my option

the old version used intel Xeon, this uses AMD EPIC

the old version only supported one native NVME drive, this supports 2

the old version had a older base band management controller due to using an older supermicro motherboard, this version uses a new AMD EPIC motherboard

this version uses a single 9400-16I HBA, the old version used 8x SATA ports controlled by the motherboard south-bridge chip set and used an integrated 9300-8i. this i think makes management easier

the old version only had ONE 16x slot, a 4x slot and the rest were 8x slots, this motherboard has all 16x slots (though depending on using both NVME and or the oculink ports some slots downgrade to 8x slots)

at least comparing the 16 core 32 thread CPU options, you get a lot more performance out of the AMD, but do use more power, hence way they are now using an active CPU cooler on the new HL15 2.0 compared to the passive cooler in the old model

The AMD EPYC 7282 is newer than Intel Xeon Silver 4216 @ 2.10GHz and is around 44% faster in multi-threaded (CPU Mark) testing. The AMD EPYC 7282 is around 9% faster in single-thread testing. Also, AMD EPYC 7282 uses around 18% more power. All the CPUs in this comparison belong in the Server CPU Class. The values below were tabulated from a combined 41 benchmarks submitted from our PerformanceTest software and results and are updated daily to include new submissions.

  • The first section will show basic information for each CPU selected.
  • The additional graphs shows the CPU Mark and Single Thread values of each CPU selected.
  • An accompany graph, if price data is available, will shows the value for money, in terms of the CPU Mark/Thread Rating per dollar.
  • The last section will show approximate yearly running costs for the CPUs.

Is this the 2.0 chassis? I don’t see anywhere on the page stating it is. Maybe they are still updating everything since it still lists the intel bronze in summary.

based on my understanding this is still using the HL15 version 1.0 chassis and the larger chassis will be made available in the future

It says HL15 2.0 on the site:

The store site seems to be updated now. This is still the 4U ATX form factor. The 5U/EATX chassis will be a separate announcement at some point. See the couple of other recent posts Vikram made.

Great question about the chassis

It is still 4U.

There are modifications to the chassis that include an integrated toolless dust filter and more space between the drive cage and the front panel that gives a bit more comfort taking drives in and out

The non fully built and burned in options include these modifications as well!

Placed my order, $4731.26 including shipping & taxes with maxed out specs.

Now trying to pickup some Seagate Exos X24 24TB from NewEgg while they are still on sale for $439.

@SoCalPilot
Thank you for being a customer! Looking forward to hearing your experience with your new maxed out HL15 2.0!

So, for HL15 2.0, are the graphic size limitations the same as those for 1.0?
Are the motherboard size limits also the same?
I guess the HL15 2.0 5U will address both of those entirely.

Let’s see, I’ll start with unfulfilled wishes:

  1. I wish they offered more CPU varieties, such as AMD EPYC™ 7713.
  2. I wish they offered all the faceplates that were limited-time choices (I love the Valentine’s Day red).

Now, what I LOVE about this update is that it hit all the things that bugged me in 1.0, including:

  1. Having lots of extra SATA ports available for SSDs in the 6-bay add-ons… almost enough for two fully loaded 6-bays (unless you can use the Oculink to get two more SATA?)
  2. All bays can now take SAS drives
  3. PWM!!! Heck yeah.
  4. A CPU cooler capable of cooling even the most insane CPUs that the motherboard can support.
  5. Dust filter.

My overall opinion is that I don’t need a new HL15 2.0 right now, as I recently acquired the original HL15 and am happy with it; however, that doesn’t mean I don’t want one badly. Nice upgrade.
