HL-15 SSDs via Reverse Breakout

Hello,

I have an HL-15 with 8 drives attached to the backplane. I don’t plan to use all 15 slots and would like to use the last quadrant of the backplane for SATA SSDs that connect directly to the mainboard with reverse breakout cables.

These SSDs are currenty installed to the SSD adapter mounted in the back of the case. This blocks airflow from my CPU cooler and requires additional cabling for power.

Is there any issue with this approach? I have the 2.5" 3d printed caddies. The first 3 quadrants would stay connected to my HBA card.

Oh, and the reason for this is to reduce the load on the HBA, and bypass it since two of these SSDs are for the OS. The HBA is an LSI 9305-16i.

Thanks!

No, not that I can think of.
