Got my full build in today and was doing a little post receipt test / burn in before setting it up.
I noticed that whenever I booted, I would get a 3x beep [pause] beep.
Couldn’t find any reference to this in either the motherboard manual or in the bios post code manual. Tried Memtest86 and it came up clean, and everything seems to be working fine - boots into the default rocky linux.
I was originally using PiKVM when testing this, so I tried closing the window and switching my TECSmart KVM to another channel. This time 2x beeps [pause] beep.
I pulled the KVM usb / vga cable from the ports entirely and just used IPMI and then just got 1 beep. (presumably normal)
Newbie question - what’s going on here? - is this just it counting USB devices it finds connected? Or something else?
Just like you, I’m not seeing a matching beep code in the documentation. I haven’t heard of a problem like this on the HL15, but I have seen computers fail to pair before due to USB devices.
A few troubleshooting suggestions:
Remove USB from boot sequence
Use the built in IPMI Post Snooping screen to get the hex code and see if that’s in the documentation
Check for a newer BIOS version on Supermicro website. I know my HL15 was woefully behind on firmware updates.
I did figure out what the beeps were from a Q&A on Supermicro’s site “BIOS will issue a high beep when each supported USB device is detected, and issue a low beep when each unsupported USB device is detected or has error during initialization.”
Glad I didn’t have the number of usb devices connected that would match the memory post code
