Disable slide locking?

Is there a way to permanently disable the slides from locking?

I bought a fully built HL15 with the factory shipped slides for rack mount. I find the slides locking out to be annoying every single time they do it.

Is there a way to permanently disable this feature?

Thank you.

Kevin

Not officially AFAIK. You would have to take a look at the latch mechanism and see if/how it can be disassembled. I would be concerned though that that latch is also what prevents the server from coming all the way out of the rack, so if tampered with, I’d have safety concerns pulling it out too far and bang it’s crushed your foot. Do you have the regular or the short rails?

Bummer. I have the full length slides.

I definitely don’t want them to slide too far and come apart, but I don’t see a really good reason from them to lock in the extended position. You’d think they could be designed such that they wouldn’t extend too far without locking in the extended position, but I guess the designers thought that was a desirable feature. They’re still better slides than the others I have.

I guess I’ll just have to continue to be annoyed with then do that.

It may be necessary to alter the slides in order to permanently disable the locking feature on your HL15 rack-mount slides.

To guarantee stability when extended, the majority of rack-mount slides are designed with a locking mechanism. Find the locking tabs or latches on the slides to turn off this feature. Usually little pieces of plastic or metal, these catch when the slide is fully extended.
