10G network and dual m2 ssd card for HL4

Hello,
I’m looking for a 10GB network card with integrated m2 ssd to improve an HL4.
Does anyone have tried placing such card in an HL4 chassis ?
I’ve found several cards but not sure that it will fit in the chassis or will be supported natively on Linux :

  • SONNET TECHNOLOGIES Carte PCIe McFiver G10E-USBC-M2-E
  • Synology E10M20-T1
  • Asustor AS-T10G3
  • Qnap QM2-2P410G2T

Kind regards,
Henri Chapelle

Based on other posts here I’d look at the QNAP QM2-2P10G1TB or QM2-2P2G2T (if you can live with dual 2.5G). The Synology E10M20-T1 does not seem to work with the full build, it may be locked to Synology hardware in some way, the Sonnet is old and does not have good reviews. I don’t know about the Asusstor, but it should physically fit. The QM2-2P410G2T is going to be a tight fit at 187mm; I don’t have an HL4/8 but you could measure yourself and see what you think.

the Qnap QM2-2P10G1TB fits in the HL8 at least but at least for me the ethernet nic isnt recognized by the system

Thank you so much for all the information.
The QM2-2P10G1TB should match what I need.

Thanks for your answer.
When you mention the NIC is not recognised, do you use the stock Rocky Linux 8 and Houston UI ?

Not sure. Am using truenas scale electric eel. But since the ethernet port does not show in the Bios it doesnt seam to be a OS issue

To the OP, be aware that the QNAP card uses a PCI 4 x 8 connection to the motherboard, and you will need 10 PCI 4 lanes to fully utilize all the IO on that card. QNAP addresses this by using a PCI switch on the card. It’s probably fine, but if you run into performance issues, the slight over subscription of bandwidth might explain it.

It also appears to be quite expensive, like $700-800

Little update from my HL8 build:
the QM2-2P10G1TB actually seams to work now. So not sure if it was a Bios or PCIe issue to be honest. I got a replacement unite due to a damaged case and it just worked.
The card uses x8 PCIe. I actually got it to work with a x8x4x4 PCIe adapter so that i can install 4 m.2 Nvme + the 10gig ethernet
