Hey guys, Did anyone find the video showing the performance of an HL15? According to the email from Wednesday it should be out by now even when accounting for timezones, but I can’t find it anywhere. ---

ZFS in general is such a large boon to performance. Coupled with 45Drives direct wired topology…. I can’t wait to see how many ZFS converts we get! ---

Thanks for the video! After watching this a few times, can @Hutch-45Drives confirm the setup on the HL15 in this video? Specifically: 1. Can you confirm no special vdev’s for metadata or L2ARC? I see no add-on cards with NVME’s for special VDEV. There is only 16Gb memory, so if using ZFS, some of that is being used for ARC and there is no special VDEV for L2ARC. 2. Is this just a simple 15 drive Z1 or Z2 array? Basically, pretty amazing performance without the standard bag of tricks such as throwing gobs of memory at the system (sometimes recommended 1Gb of memory for each 1Tb of storage), no special vdev hosting metadata for faster lookups or previews, not using multiple striped vdev’s in the pool for increased performance. This is all on an entry level, lower tier Xeon Bronze with no hyperthreading. Thanks again for getting us some videos of this machine. ---

I mean, something like an Exos X20 20TB SATA _without_ ZFS will individually give you 260-270MB/sec sequential reads and writes. You really don’t need 15 of them to max out a 10GbE NIC. Indeed, if you’re going to pair 15x 3.5" SAS/SATA with \>=4 NVMe (of any generation!) then you might well be able to get to 11-12GB/sec, warranting a 100GbE NIC to not be constrained by your network - that’s where I’m going with my HL15 builds with 8x NVMe and 15x SATA in each! If you’re going to `find` over a folder (or set of folders) with \>500k files in them that’s where special vdevs for metadata start to come into their own, I think. ---

HI All, Here are the specs used for that video ### Hardware Specs: Motherboard: X11-SPH-NCTF (Supports IPMI) Processor: Xeon Bronze 3204 (6 Core & 6 Thread) Memory: 2x8GB DDR4 RDIMM Boot Drive: 1TB Kingston M.2 NVMe Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (750W Modular ATX) ### Configuration: 14X Mirrored VDEV Zpool 64K Record Size noatime,compression=lz4,sync=disabled,arc=70% (added 20% over default) 10G network RX/TX buffers increased to 4096 CPU on server set to disable C states/P states: tuned-adm profile network-throughput cpupower governor set to performance (command: cpupower frequency-set –governor performance) **NOTE** The above Configuration changes were made purely for performance and are not intended for a day-to-day workload. We would advise against these settings if you are storing important data on your server ---
