I don’t think it would have helped you avoid this misunderstanding about Jeff’s build, but from the questions that get posted about cable selection, I’d agree It’s something that they probably take for granted but might help prospective buyers and new builders visualize what’s going on.
They do have some videos about the different cable sets for the HL15;
I’m not sure if those would be helpful or confusing to an HL8 user since the backplane and number of cables you get is cut in half.
Maybe @Vikram-45HomeLab could pass that feedback along and they could do a video showing the different options for custom HL4/8 builds for connecting the drives; the different cable sets, closeups of the connectors, info on HBAs and PCIe and m.2 SATA cards end when you’d use them. Maybe even throw in some info on the SSD bracket too.
Correct, no GPU needed. The little onboard one is enough. The purpose of this system is a little office NAS.

Its all good, the control is there for s good reason I suspect. I cant wait fro the parts to arrive. It sucks being Down Under when it comes to shipping. often the shipping is more than the parts and we wait forever for them. Dread when its the wrong one and needs to be sent back!
