I Recommend This $100 Fan Mod

For those of you who are getting the 4-pin Noctua PWM fans, How are you connecting 6 fans to the board? Some sort of fan hub?

Thought Id post a follow up as its been a couple of weeks and I have been really throttling my system lately with the 47ohm fan reduction cables on. Upgraded Xeon 4214 on stock HL15 passive cooler Max 58C Min 44C ~Mean 47C. 15 Exos 18TB drives 28-30C.

The 10db drop is really what i was after (killing the whine) but will probably put some Dynamat on the inside of the cover to try to combat the drive noise… It sounds like a washing machine (wife’s words) when a heavy load hits the drives…

I went with the Noctua NF-P12 redux-1700 PWM fans. I have the Supermicro X11SPH-nCTF that comes with the fullly built option and has 8 PWM fan headers so I just connected them directly to the board individually.
