But the intention of the suggestion is to give other customer’s an idea. Such as saying something like "approximate 45 days lead time "
In this day of Amazon people are.not used to the make to order process.
To be fair to 45Drives my HL15 did eventually appear with zero shipping issues.
In contrast, not only did I wait a few weeks for a set of RGBACL COB lights to even ship from another vendor, I’m now having to spend almost $500 USD just setting up accounts with UPS to appoint them as my customs broker to have the privilege of then doing more paperwork to then tell US CBP that I’m importing them, and pay that duty (which is even more money again). Happening so soon after I got the first of three HL15s it’s a stark contrast!
So kudos to 45Drives for not inflicting import bureaucracy on their US customers and handling everything for us.
Hi @Arvald,
Thank you for your suggestion; we will definitely take this into consideration.
I have sent you an email with your order update. If you have further questions related to your order, please reply to the same email, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you,
It’d be good to offer the Supermicro Accessory MCP-290-00061-0N Non-Thread Rail Adapter for sale alongside the rack rails. I didn’t realize until I received the rails that the an adapter was not included. Updating the description on your Supermicro Rail Kit MCP-290-00053-0N would also be helpful for the few of us with round hold threaded rails.
Hi @rymandle05,
Thank you for bringing this up. Our team is currently working on this, and I will be sending you an email as soon as I get an update.
I was able to order the adapter part on Amazon so I’m good to go sometime between Dec 11-14.
It actually has it’s own connector on the stand-off PCB, so you’d be connecting directly to those SSDs. Main idea being tiered storage - sure, you lose 3 of the 3.5" slots, but you gain 8 x 2.5" slots, and for random IO loads, that’s an easy trade.
- The F8x1 backplane would be ideal - pcb can’t cost more than 20 bucks, at least given the picture above… call it $80 even, worth it. I’ve got 6 of the 4TB micron 5100 pros on a crazy deal at one point, and I’d love to put them in front of the HDD’s.
- An E-ATX compatible version of the chassis - just extend the length by ~4cm and that’d be good enough for me. So many of the workstation MB’s are E-ATX, and they offer significantly more flexibility than many of the <= ATX sized boards. I was hoping to buy 3 of the HL15 initially, but found they wouldn’t fit my existing WRX80 HW, and not ready to replace those yet so having to wait a bit.
- Fan options during purchase - supermicro offers their “SQ” variants (“super quiet”), and with so many opting to place these in locations that aren’t sound deadened, being able to choose something like Noctua as an option would be helpful
- 3D printed 2.5" mount - saw this in one of the creators summit vids, where one of your engineers cooked this up for one of the YT folks. I’d imagine there’d be some demaind for it from those who don’t have 3D printers
- Alternative MB option - having the option to choose something with onboard graphics and IPMI which they know will still allow them to expose the onboard GPU easily for transcoding (etc) needs (as some boards BIOS make this next to impossible) would seem like a great idea. Now that AI accelerators are coming to even some consumer CPUs, there’s additional thought to be given there.
Would it be possible to list a few alternative CPU/No CPU options with the fully built system?
Or is it possible to custom order some? Would seem wasteful to order a fully built system, and then just toss the xeon bronze for a silver/gold CPU.
Not disagreeing, but how much more are you willing to spend? I think part of the idea of the HL15 was to hit a price point homelabbers could stomach, and that seems to have been difficult for many even at $2K. If you look at the sales pages for the 45Drives Storinators, they typically want $750 to upgrade to a Xeon Silver 4210 and $2500 to upgrade to a Xeon Gold 6230R. Are you willing to pay $4500 for an HL15? I ask in part because if you say “Yes!” that’s good information for 45HomeLab to know. You might actually be better selling the 3204 and sourcing your own upgrade CPU than buying one at their markups. Also, a lot of people are complaining about fan noise. People would need to understand that an air cooled Xeon gold build isn’t going to be silent.
A No CPU option would be interesting, although perhaps hard from an assembly and warranty perspective. The interesting part being that X11SPH motherboard doesn’t seem easy to source new on one’s own.
I would personally be happy to spend $200/$400 extra for doubling up my available cores. 4214 runs for about $300 on ebay. I wouldn’t shill out $750 for a Xeon Silver thats true.
If realistic CPU prices can’t be obtained, then a no-cpu option would be ideal.
HI @bbusa,
I am happy to let you know that we have a few option to upgrade your CPU and they are:
- CPU_017 - Intel Xeon Silver 4210 → $275 USD
- CPU_007 - Intel Xeon Silver 4216 → $655 USD
- CPU_026 - Intel Xeon Gold 6230R → $1290 USD
Please feel free to reach out to me at info@45homelab.com and i will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you,
not really hardware related but, more payment options would be nice, i live in europe and we don’t use creditcards here.
Hey @Suukerjunk,
Welcome to the community. I have forwarded your feedback to our team, and we will work on the request as best we can.
Thank you,
I would like to throw in my vote for making the HL15 backplane available in the store. I have a bare Storage Pod (?.?) that I just stumbled upon recently.
In the homelab spirit, I want to bring this thing to life. I understand that the mount points are different, would love to work on a 3d printable adapter to help those with ancient units to use the new backplane.
HI @blitz, you are correct the standoffs for the backplanes would not match up with the current chassis
Ill talk to the team to get backplanes added to the store but you would need to modify/build an adapter for mounting them
Hi @Hutch-45Drives , its not only the stands off. The spacing does not match up quite right either with the older storage pods.
Working on an alternative route to build this chassis out.
thanks, any updates on the request ? i want an HL15 because it fits my use case and i’m waiting when i can order it.
@Suukerjunk I’ll talk to the team to see where we are getting more payment methods.
If you would like to order an HL15 now please reach out to info@45homelab.com to place an order through a salesperson who will be able to provide more payment methods
Hi @Suukerjunk,
I understand you want to pay using a different payment method, and as my friend @Hutch-45Drives said, I would request that you send me an email for the same, and I will guide you further on this.
Thank you,
Hey,
I would love to buy the HL15 backplane with or without the HDD cage separately. I am currently building my first real homelab server. The case looks exactly what I want for my server. Build quality looks exceptional and absolutely worth the price, but it is currently not in my budget
It would be wonderful if I could buy the backplane first since I have the hardware and upgrade to the enclosure later.
Best
Fabian
