Exciting Update - Noctua Fan Kit Available for Purchase!

Hey man, thanks. I wasnt trying to cause more work, just wanted to make sure the numbers werent backwards and people get mad when stuff got hotter.

I know even with reduced cooling the internet LOVES Noctuas because the noise level reduction. I likely have hearing damage from decades of noise exposure, and the stock fans are not loud to me, all i personally care about is not cooking my hardware in an oven

I just got my kit, thanks for the super quick shipping and typical 45Drives amazing packaging. I would recomend adding the instalation instructions or a link to them to the packaging. It will make things easier, and as @astraea metioned the Insturctions seem to cut off in the middle of the process. I am filming a review and want to make sure you have an opportunity to update it before i film.

Just installed my kit. Was fairly straight forward and the updated installation pdf helped tremendously.

First impression is the reduced fan noise is very good. Never realized how noisy my Seagate drives were until now. Working on optimizing the fan speeds to make sure my system stays within a good operating temperature for drives and CPU.

One point with my HL-15 the original 12 volt fan connectors are hard wired to the power distribution board. Since the pins on the disconnected connectors were exposed, I covered them with electrical tape to prevent shorting to metal or other components.

The final step in the original incomplete PDF was;

Cover open ended fan power cables from the wire harness with plastic fan housing pieces.

So, they’re not providing these covers in the kit?

Hi @rcarleton,

I appreciate your valuable feedback, and I am happy that you like the Noctua Upgrade. I see that you have not received the plastic piece. I will get this escalated and I will place an order for these parts to all our customers who ordered the Noctua upgrade kit.

Thank you,

So in the current pdf there is no step for covering the open ended fan power cables nor any mention of importance to cover them is some manner. 45Drives may want to update the installation instructions to add back in the step you mentioned.

I see Vikram has already replied as well and is sending out the plastic covers to those of us who purchased kits. Big thanks for such a quick reply.

One other point of guidance for others, if you want your motherboard to track the fan rpm of fans connected to the supplied Noctua Fan Hub through the Noctua Controller you will need to connect one of the three fans to port 1 of hub as it is the only port on hub that passes on it’s connected fan rpm.

I followed the instructions pdf closely and matched connections to pictures shown and then noticed in ipmi that no fan was shown connected to fan header on mb I had connected to Noctua controller.

thanks @rcarleton, @Vikram-45HomeLabs it would be good if new orders with the Noctua fan kit included pre-attached, have one of the three fans attached to port 1 on the hub to avoid having to rewire them. I received mine and 3, 5, 7 & 8 were connected and had to search to find this solution.

Hi @homelab,

I appreciate your valuable feedback, I have forwarded the same to our R&D team to be further looked at.

We really appreciate all the valuable feedback and experience you are sharing to help us improve, so please keep continue in doing so.

One issue I have since connecting one fan to port 1 of the hub is that the fans ramp up and down, Supermicro H12SSL-i Motherboard - seems to be an issue that is known so time to try and fix this - Supermicro Fans Are Repeatedly Ramping Up and Down | Stefandroid Blog
